Top-5 Tips for a fun & successful Sober October

Today is the start of… SOBER OCTOBER!

Sober October

What is Sober October?
Sober October began in 2014 as a fundraising campaign for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity in the UK that provides health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. Over the last few years, Sober October has become more of general challenge and is becoming quite the thing, all around the world! The rule is that you simply donā€™t drink any alcohol for the month and the idea behind it is to take a closer look at the role alcohol plays in your life. You can also choose to raise money for a charity at the same time. For more information on this please visit Go Sober.

Maybe you are leading an alcohol-free lifestyle already or perhaps you have been trying to moderate your drinking. But in case you are considering Sober October for the first time: Iā€™m a tiny bit (ok, quite!) jealous!

Brand new start…

Why am I jealous, you ask?
Because this is excĆting stuff! Sober October is your chance to a BRAND NEW START of your lifešŸ˜ A life that will bring you 100% freedom and clarity. A life that will bring you back to the real š’€š‘¶š‘¼! A life that you might not even want to give up at the end of the month!!

5 Tips for Sober October

Before you start seeing all the amazing things that will open up for you once you stop drinking, you need to actually stĆ”rt not drinking though… So today I am sharing a few tips with you that might help you stick to your first Sober October:

  1. First of all, write down you WHY; Do you simply want to give your liver a rest? Are you fed up with having hangovers? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to sleep better? Do you want to do something about that anxiety you have? Do you want to feel fitter and clearer in your mind? There are so many (excellent!) reasons to want to stop drinking (for a month)… Make sure you pick your personal WHY and write it down on a piece of paper and keep that close to you. This will make it easier to stick to your COMMITMENT for the month.
  2. Secondly, get rid of all the booze that you might have lying around in your house. Put it all in a box and stick it in the attic/garage/a friendsĀ“ place (who doesnĀ“t do Sober October obvs haha), as long as it is all out of sight. This takes the temptation away at home.
  3. Another important one is to find SUPPORT/encouragement. You can check out sober accounts on Instagram (like mine: @sobertopia or any of the other awesome options there). You can have a look at online sober communities, like Soberistas. Or you can for instance visit DRYY – a brand new sobriety app from Andy Ramage and Matt Pink.
  4. Promise yourself a nice REWARD at the end of the month! BĆŗy that sweater that you loved so much but didnĀ“t get, bĆŗy that over-priced but amazing-smelling candle…
  5. And my last tip: Buy some nice alcohol-free drinks to Ā“get you throughĀ“ the month!! Plenty of great choices nowadays… For my readers in the UK, check out The Alcoholfree Co, in Spain we have the Blue Dolphin Store, in the Netherlands there is the awesome Nix & Nix Booze-free bottleshop & in the US check out for instance No & Low and Boisson for great selections of alcohol-free spirits, wines and beers!
