Sober Event No Booze Cruise

Fun, brand new Sober Events that you don´t want to miss!

Have you ever been to a Sober Event? Or maybe you attend them regularly?

Personally, I’m a BIG FAN of these and I try to go to as many as possible! This year so far, I’ve been to two: The No Booze Cruise in London back in April (see pic above), organised by Matt Pink, and the Sans Bar Alcohol-free Pop Up Party in New York City in August.

Both were very different yet amazingly fun events! So much so that I signed up for some more… I’ll share them here with you so you can check them out too, if you want!

Sober Social Luxemburg

The first upcoming Sober Event I will attend is a social get-together organised by the brand new organisation Sober Social Luxemburg. It is their first event and takes place on Saturday the 22nd of October 2022, from 4 – 8pm at Bazaar Bar & Restaurant on 46 Pl. Guillaume II in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

Founder of Sober Social Luxemburg, Jessica Weis, started Sober Socials Luxemburg to show people in Luxembourg how great sobriety can be by creating a safe, non-judgmental space to come and chat about all things alcohol-free with like-minded others. So if you are sober or sober curious, living in/near Luxemburg (or don´t mind the travel), and interested in meeting other sober (curious) people, then this event is for you! There will be food, lovely alcohol-free drinks, and exciting speakers who will give you useful information on the topic of alcohol.

Soberistas Anniversary

Then, my second place to be this year, is the Soberistas 10th-anniversary party in London! Soberistas is a website built in 2012 to create an online sober community that now has 72.263 members. I became a member in 2015 when I started playing with the idea of stopping drinking entirely. It took me a bit longer than I hoped but I got there in the end! Lucy Rocca, who founded Soberistas, decided that this 10 year anniversary is a day worth celebrating, and I couldn’t agree more.

The event will take place on Saturday the 26th of November 2022, from 4 – 9pm at The Salvation Army (Regent Hall), 275 Oxford Street in London, UK. There will be live music, a magician, gorgeous food, and inspirational speakers. One of them is my favourite quit lit writer Clare Pooley (bestselling author of The Sober Diaries). The other speaker is the amazing William Porter (author of Alcohol Explained Books 1 & 2 and all-round sober hero).

Soberlicious Adventures

Last but not least, I signed up for the first-ever event of Soberlicious Adventures, a Dutch organisation that organises Sober Events, founded by Desirée van Wijk: The Zero Hero Dinner & Theatre Experience. It’s going to be an incredible night! We will meet up for dinner first, then see a play by Evi Hanssen, a Belgian TV Presenter & writer, about (her) sobriety, and we will end the night with yum alcohol-free cocktails…!

This event will take place on Thursday the 16th of March 2023, from 4.30-10.30pm in Breda and Oosterhout, and the show will be IN DUTCH. Contact me here in case you’d like more info about this event.

Ok… This is it for now. I will keep you guys up-to-date about future sober events when they pop up, and let me know if you heard of any that I might have missed!

PS…

I hear from quite a lot of people that they find it quite scary to go to sober events by themselves. Especially the first time. And I agree; the first time I ever attended a sober event was a Soberistas Workshop in Dublin in 2019. I was SUPER nervous beforehand and was very happy that some of us connected online before the event. We took the bus into town together, and although we had never met, it immediately felt easygoing… Plus it was nice to kind of ´hang´ together at the actual event.

My tip here is to try and reach out / connect with (an)other person(s) before the sober event takes place and to suggest meeting up somewhere beforehand so you can go there together. There will ALWAYS be people that feel this way too and would love to join you. And every event you go to makes you more comfortable for the next!
