No I am not… My first sober holiday was a fantastic, fabulously fun week away with my favourite (alcohol loving) friends! And without me having taken a drop of alcohol 🙂
We sunbathed, played volleyball in the pool, had daily football matches against the kids. There were elaborate lunches every day – prepared by my other half who happens to be an amazing chef . We relaxed, drank delicious and innovative drinkies – both wíth and without alcohol – by the pool & we danced the night away, évery single night! I totally enjoyed myself – without any longing for alcohol. At all!
But… yes, maybe one or two evenings I was quite tired around 10pm. And while the rest was just getting started (read: getting tipsy and ready to Rock & Roll) or – I suspect – kind of drank their way through their tiredness, I kind of wished I could just go to bed and read my – very funny – book [MBP_AA_LINK “MBP_AA_LINK_THEPILE”] without being rude. But I did nót do that as who wants to become known as The Sober Holiday Grinch, not me 😉
Drinks review
Time for the promised (short) review of the alcohol free drinks that I took with me:
First of all the [MBP_AA_LINK “MBP_AA_LINK_PIERREZERO”]: I quite liked this sparkling white wine. Not bad for a non alcoholic wine although slightly on the sweet side and a bit too ´apple-y´ for me…
Then the GO GOLD Light 22 carat: A beautiful looking and funky drink with real gold added to it. Also a little bit too sweet in my opinion though and the bubbles disappeared quite quickly. Then again, I´m a fan of dry so I would definitely give it a shot if you have something to celebrate and aren´t too focused on very dry wines as the gold flakes look amazing when poured into your glass!
The third wine I brought and tried was Vinosse by Richard Juhlin, also a sparkling Chardonnay: A very fruity wine and quite good! Very sparkly and fresh, a nice alternative to an alcoholic version.
Furthermore I took 2 non alcoholic spirits with me, the first one being [MBP_AA_LINK “MBP_AA_LINK_SEEDLIPGARDEN”]: This was my first try of a non alcoholic spririt and when I sniffed into the bottle I was very hopeful as it was a nice, herby smell. However, when I drank it ´solo´ (without a mixer) it was a disappointment. The taste wasn´t very deep, a bit watery and it had no kick at all. Which is hard to have without alcohol, I get that, but a bít more depth would have been nice. Tasted ok with Tonic and a slice of lime.
Then the last drink in my suitcase, [MBP_AA_LINK “MBP_AA_LINK_CALENO”]: Wow, nice!! Beautifully designed bottle to start with and the smell on opening the bottle: Delish! Drinking it solo has a very nice and deep taste, however, like Seedlip garden 108 but to a lesser extent, it does taste a bit watery right at the end. With a Tonic and a slice of lime it´s an amazing drink though and I very much recommend trying it as its a great option for an alcohol free G&T…!
End result
All in all I have to say that my first sober holiday away was not bad… At all! It was actually super fun and I can not wait for the next! Which will most likely be a slightly more challenging one: My first sober “Girls Trip Away”…
