Time for a brand new Bubblypoptail in Marbs, especially for World Cocktail Day!
On May 13th it was World Cocktail Day🍸 Every year, on this day, a global celebration of cocktails takes place. It marks the publication date of the first definition of a cocktail on May 13 in 1806, in The Balance and Columbian Repository, an upstate New York newspaper. This year I made an alcohol-free cocktail to celebrate this great day and I did this in the name of Lyre’s. First of all, because I love their products, more about these later, and second of all because Lyre´s organised a Cocktail Competition on Instagram this year and I love a good competition😄
Since I’m a huge fan of dessert-like cocktails as well as bubbles I decided to make something based on this. So here we go…
THE DOUBLE LYRES & GRAPEFRUIT GRANITA
Let´s start with the ingredients. This is enough for 4-6 cocktails:
2 cans of Lyre’s Classico
375ml of Lyre’s Dry London Spirit
Juice of 1 grapefruit
Juice of 1 lime
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
A handful of edible flowers
To make the granita (= a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar, water and various flavourings, originating from Sicily 🇮🇹 ) do the following:
Bring the water and sugar to a boil in a small saucepan and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add the rest of the ingredients, aside from the can of Lyre’s Classico. Stir and transfer to an 8-inch square dish. Cool to room temperature.
Once it´s room temperature, freeze for 1 hour. Then stir with a fork. Freeze 2 – 3 hours longer, stirring with a fork every 30 minutes. Be sure to scrape away at the edges.
Now the fun (and easy!) part starts —>
1. Stir the granita with a fork after you take it out of the freezer
2. Fill a coupe glass with the granita
3. Pour 80-100ml of the Lyre’s Classico over it
4. Garnish with flowers
5. Serve right away!
Result of this years´ World Cocktail Day concoction…
Sooo good!🤣 Obvs I’m biased as I made it and used everything that I love but oh la la… It’s fresh and citrusy, with a bitter from the grapefruit in it. The texture is first crunchy and then melts. It has a firm bubble in it due to the delicious Classico. The taste has multiple layers as the Dry London and the Classico work really well together plus on top of that, we have the added fresh citrus juices.
It takes a bit of prep but yes, I think I found my favourite 2021 Summer Cocktail!! ☀️🌴🍹
You can buy Lyre’s drinks at The Blue Dolphin Store here in Spain (€28 for 700ml) or at The Alcoholfree Co in the UK (£23 for 700ml)
